ICPS asks for treatment for spasticity to be added to WHO Essential Medicines Lists

ICPS has submitted an application for baclofen (in both oral and intrathecal forms) to be included in the World Health Organization's Model Lists of Essential Medicines as a treatment for spasticity in adults and children with cerebral palsy.

There is currently no treatment for cerebral palsy on the Essential Medicines Lists, which help countries to ensure that the most critical treatments are available and affordable for those who need them.

The application will be considered by the WHO Expert Committee at a meeting in Geneva in May 2025. Prior to that, WHO is inviting public comments on this and other applications, which can be submitted until 18 April 2025.
